On Wednesday, May 12, the nation added 16 new COVID‑19 positives to its tally.
- 10 community‑linked cases (seven tied to the Changi Airport cluster, three to other clusters)
- 6 imported cases (all placed on stay‑home notice)
Changi Airport Cluster – 25 Patients
That cluster is the city’s second‑largest active group after the 44‑case saga at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
- Three of the new cluster cases tested positive for the B1617 variant, the same strain that first hit India.
- Participants include:
- Two Immigration & Checkpoints Authority officers (38 & 39 yrs)
- A 65‑year‑old cleaner from Ramky Cleantech Services
- Two fully vaccinated staff (one 62‑year‑old cleaner, one 24‑year‑old Huawei IT engineer)
- Other roles: an IT engineer at Terminal 4, a Certis Cisco staff member, and a retail sales associate.
- At least five of the cluster members are fully vaccinated.
Free Testing for Terminal 3 Visitors
Anyone who stopped by Terminal 3 since May 3 will receive an SMS from the Ministry of Health with instructions on booking a free test.
Other Community Cases
Two additional cases came from distinct clusters:
- A 36‑year‑old Vietnamese guest who lives with a Grab driver who tested positive last Saturday.
- A 64‑year‑old Singaporean who earned her positive test while staying under quarantine at Ward 9D of Tan Tock Seng Hospital after a string of earlier negative results.
Unlinked Hospital Worker
A 33‑year‑old operating theatre nurse at Sengkang General Hospital tested positive but has no current link to a known cluster. She’s fully vaccinated and revealed the B1617 variant.
Nationwide Numbers
- Total active cases now stand at 61 419.
- Records of community cases fell from 62 to 49 over the last two weeks, yet unlinked community cases rose from 7 to 12.
- 61 991 patients have fully recovered (31 discharged on Wednesday).
- Hospitalized patients: 143 (including 3 in ICU).
- Community recovery facilities: 239.
- Deaths: 31 from COVID complications and 15 from unrelated causes.
