KFC Singapore Ditches Straws, One Sip at a Time
On June 20, 2018, Singapore’s KFC rolled off its plastic caps and straws, joining a growing wave of eco‑friendly moves by big brands. Think of it as a quick bite of change with a side of conscience.
How It Works
- All 84 KFC outlets will no longer offer straws or plastic caps with beverages starting Wednesday.
- Customers can still get plastic covers for tea or drink boxes, so no surprise leaks.
- The change is part of the “No Straws Initiative”, a pledge to slash single‑use plastic.
Why It Matters
Lynette Lee, KFC’s General Manager, shared, “We see the heavy toll of single‑use plastics on our planet and are ready to take a stand. Every little choice matters, and we’re proud to lead the pack here—in Singapore—one straw at a time.”
The move could cut about 17.8 metric tonnes of plastic every year. That’s the equivalent of thousands of bottles, bags, or wrappers that would otherwise clog rivers and litter shores.
Building on the Momentum
- KFC plans to keep rolling out biodegradable packaging across its menu.
- It’s a step toward sustainable service, ensuring that fast food stays fast—without harming the planet.
With smoke stacks reduced and conscience satisfied, KFC’s most beloved chicken meals are now a little greener. Cheers to less plastic and more planet‑friendly bites!
