Punggol Primary School Mandates COVID‑19 Swab Tests as Cluster Swells to 7

Punggol Primary School Goes Remote Amid Rising COVID Cases

Heads up, parents and little learners! Punggol Primary School will be turning the lights off on campus and switching to home‑based learning starting Thursday, July 29, and continuing through August 6. This swift move comes as the latest COVID cluster at the school has ballooned from a single cleaner to seven confirmed cases.

What’s Happening

  • The cluster started with a cleaner at Punggol Primary School on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the number of cases had jumped to seven.
  • MOE reports one teacher and two students testing positive, although the teacher isn’t a close contact of those kids. Investigations are on to see if the connections line up.
  • Two contract cleaners and a non‑teaching staffer who never mingled with students or teachers have also been confirmed COVID‑positive.
  • All close contacts have been put on quarantine or given a leave of absence.
  • The school premises have been gives a thorough disinfecting makeover to keep everyone safe.

Health & Safety Take‑Care

The Ministry of Education (MOE) is keeping a tight eye on the situation and is working hand‑in‑hand with the school and parents. They’re urging anyone feeling off to seek medical care right away, stay hydrated, wash hands like a champ, and keep up with all the “best practices” that make spread a no‑go.

Remember: COVID’s Been in Schools Before

It’s not news this summer. The first in‑school spread we saw was back on May 21 when an 11‑year‑old from Anglo‑Chinese School (Junior) turned positive after a classmate’s earlier diagnosis.

So, the take‑away? While we’re all staying snug at home, we’re working hard to keep everyone on the safe side of the curve. Stay warm, stay healthy, and let’s get through this together—a few extra pajamas and a lot of daily hand‑washing, anyone?
