Singapore’s COVID‑19 Update: The Numbers & the Human Side

In the latest roundup, three more seniors have lost their battle with COVID‑19, bumping the nation’s death toll to 76. September’s 21 deaths are the heaviest month so far this year, outpacing August’s 18.

Daily Cases & Trends

  • 1,443 new infections reported on Sept 25—slightly down from 1,650 the day before but still a full 1,000‑plus.
  • Community: 1,053. Dormitory residents: 371.
  • Older folks (60+): 280 cases.
  • Imported cases: 19.

The Three Losses

  • 71‑year‑old man – vaccinated, but also battled atrial fibrillation, thyrotoxicosis, and high cholesterol. His age and health history made a tough fight.
  • 62‑year‑old man – partially vaccinated, with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
  • 71‑year‑old woman – unvaccinated, dealing with diabetes, end‑stage renal failure, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

Hospital Snapshot

  • Total hospitals: 1,142 (up from 1,092).
  • Patients needing oxygen: 165 (up from 162).
  • Critical care: 27 ICU beds (up from 23).
  • Older adults above 60 among the critically ill: 158.

Prime Minister’s Message

Lee Hsien Loong stressed that most vaccinated folks hitting COVID tend to have mild or no symptoms, encouraging recovery at home. In the past 28 days:

  • 97.9% mild/none
  • 1.7% needed oxygen
  • 0.2% went to ICU
  • 0.1% died

He added, “MOH is working around the clock to clear the backlog. We’re making progress—you’re not alone.”
