Angelina Jolie’s Take on the Eternals’ Cast
In a breezy sit‑down with Variety, 46‑year‑old Angelina Jolie (who’s stepping into the role of Thena) talked about the film’s lineup, which boasts queer characters, people of color, and a deaf actress, Lauren Ridloff.
“It Should Have Been This Way from the Start”
Jolie laughed and said, “What’s truly eye‑popping is that when we all gathered on set, it didn’t feel like,
‘Wow, come on, THIS is NEW and COOL!’ It felt like, ‘THIS is HOW IT’S BEEN MEANT TO BE ALL MY LIFE.’ ”
She added, “Why did this take so long? Because it finally feels right.”
Her Take on the ‘Diversity’ Conversation
When pressed, Jolie kept the conversation light but pointed out a larger message.
“People should watch the film without fussing over the ‘diversity’ tag.”
She chuckled: “I could talk about everything endless, but the real point is,
you should see monsters, superhuman feats, and just a regular hero moment.
You won’t be thinking, ‘Oh, this is just about diversity.’
Instead, you’ll be saying, ‘Let’s just enjoy the movie. Ultimate!’”
She added a wink: “No need to scream ‘Wow, this guy can even fly!’
Just enjoy the hero vibes.”
