Singapore’s 70,000 People Must Catch Up on Their Third Vaccine Dose
What’s Happening?
About 70,000 residents who got two Sinovac or Sinopharm shots are racing against the clock. They have until 31 December to book their third dose or risk slipping from “fully vaccinated” to “vaccination in progress” on 1 January.
Why does this matter? Because VDS — the vaccination‑differentiated safety measures — could limit their freedom to shop or hit the library.
What the Ministry of Health (MOH) Says
- SMS reminders were sent to folks who had their second dose three months ago.
- Hey, the MOH strongly hints that an mRNA shot (Pfizer‑BioNTech or Moderna) is the preferred third dose.
- Medical exceptions? If you can’t get an mRNA shot, stick with Sinovac or Sinopharm.
- Special rule: If you had an allergic reaction to an mRNA vaccine first, you should stay on Sinovac for the third dose.
- That third Sinovac jab must be taken 28 days after the second to keep that “fully vaccinated” badge.

Good News for Kids
For those born in 2009 (they’ll turn 13 next year), VDS still applies. But there’s a two‑month grace period for kids to finish their series. The window to skip the vaccine with a pre‑event test extends from 1 January to 1 March.
Why the Extension?
It’s all about giving the youngsters ample time to get fully vaccinated before the VDS rules kick in.
