Christmas on the Beach Turns Into a Splash Page
Picture this: it’s the 25th of December, the sea is calm, you’re strolling along the beach with your favorite person, and then—boom!—you slip on the breakwater and end up taking a sudden dip into the ocean.
The Slip
- A wooden or stone wall known as a breakwater was the culprit. It’s meant to shield the beach, but not this time.
- Our hero was on the breaker, lost his footing, and tumbled straight into the sea near East Coast Park’s carpark C3.
- He tried to swim back to the shore, but the current was strong enough to throw him off his game.
The Wife’s Panic
His wife was doing her usual holiday stroll when she noticed he was missing. “What’s going on?” she shouted, just as she spotted her husband swimming like a fish—except, you know, without the fishy grace.
She didn’t waste a second: she called the police to get help in the salty water.
How He Survived
- Despite knocking a few splashes, the man was barely hurt.
- A good Samaritan tossed him a lifebuoy, and that saved the day.
- The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) answered a call at 4:40 pm, only to find the man had already made it ashore.
Remember When…
Last November, a 47‑year‑old man tragically drowned after falling into the same waters at East Coast Park.
SCDF paramedics rushed him to Changi General Hospital, but he didn’t make it.
Wrap‑Up
So next time you’re out on a holiday beach, keep one eye on the water and the other on your sneaker shoes. Just one slip and you’ll be the talk of the tide!
