24‑Year‑Old Arrested in Shocking Australian Family Murder Case

Shocking Family Tragedy: A Five‑Person Murder in Western Australia

Australian police say a 24‑year‑old local went on a one‑day killing spree that left a mother, her three toddler children, and the mother‑in‑law dead inside a quiet Perth suburb.  He stayed in the house for days before trekking out to a far‑off mining hub, only to surrender himself when police showed up.

Who was involved?

  • Anthony Robert Harvey – alleged perpetrator, 24 years old
  • Mara Harvey – 41‑year‑old wife, murdered on September 3
  • Three toddlers: Alice (2), Beatrix (2), and Charlotte (3)
  • Beverley Quinn – 73‑year‑old mother‑in‑law, killed on September 4

What the police say

Western Australia Police Commissioner Chris Dawson announced that no guns were used – “Just a blunt object and knives,” he clarified. He warned that the episodes were apparently split into two days: the wife and kids on the 3rd, the mother‑in‑law the next morning.

According to Dawson, the family were in the kitchen when the two women were attacked.  The children died in other rooms.  “Harvey trundled around the house for a few days before heading north,” he added.

Where it happened

The victims were found inside a modest, detached family home in Perth’s suburbs.  A Facebook profile that likely belonged to Mara shows her holding a newborn while a man, presumed to be Harvey, stood beside her.  The house was a three‑bedroom dwelling with a standalone garage.

Community reaction

Neighbors have been speechless. “We noticed the house next door was unusually quiet,” said one neighbor, Richard Fairbrother. “We used to hear the kids running around the backyard.”

Mara’s sister, Taryn, posted a heartfelt message to the police: “We are left with a void, a sense of loss we can’t articulate.  Mara’s children were her world, and I’m so proud of each one.”  She added, “We’re grieving these five beautiful people, but Heaven now has five new angels.”

Recent family tragedies

Western Australia has seen three family‑home multi‑victim incidents in recent months.  In July, a man allegedly killed his mother and two siblings.  In May, a grand‑father took the lives of his wife, daughter, and the daughter’s four kids.

What’s next?

Harvey will be back in court on September 19.  The state is grappling with three gruesome, multi‑family deaths in less than a year.
