Singapore’s New Train Line: The Cross Island Line’s Phase 1
Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan just dropped the final blueprint for Phase 1 of the much‑anticipated MRT Cross Island Line (CRL). The first segment will stretch a solid 29 km, linking a dozen hot spots from Changi all the way to Ang Mo Kio.
Key Milestones
- Length & Stations: 29 km with 12 stops.
- Coverage: Changi, Loyang, Pasir Ris, Hougang, and Ang Mo Kio.
- Launch Goal: 2029 – by then over 100,000 households will skip around the city in less time.
Changi East Depot: From Underground to Above Ground
The Changi East shelter, originally slated to be underground, will now be a surface depot. A lighter, perhaps more eco‑friendly choice for the future.
Bright Hill Got A Make‑over
That bright little station on the CRL will morph into a full interchange with the Thomson‑East Coast Line.
Interchange Highlights
- Ang Mo Kio – will hook up with the North‑South Line.
- Hougang – will connect to the North‑East Line.
- Pasir Ris – will link to the East‑West Line.
Silver Linings for the Long‑haul Line
Be on the lookout for the CRL becoming Singapore’s eighth MRT line. That’s another feather in the city’s travel saga.
Thomson‑East Coast Line: Already Growing!
Mr Khaw also promised that the first phase of the Thomson‑East Coast Line would be saying “see you” before Christmas. Holiday travel just got a lot smoother.
