Amazon’s Voice Interoperability Initiative: One Device, Lots of Assistants
Picture this: a single gadget that can summon Alexa, Cortana, and a roll‑call of other voice assistants, all from the same portal. That’s Amazon’s newest move—no, it’s not just “Alexa, play music.” It’s about making all these assistants talk to each other.
The Big Players
- Alexa – the headline star
- Cortana – Microsoft’s sharp thinker
- And a scattering of other friendly bots
Who’s Signed Up?
Over thirty companies have joined the mix: Salesforce’s Einstein, Spotify, Tencent, Baidu, BMW, Bose, Harman, Orange, Sonos, Sony Audio Group. Hardware giants Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and NXP are also in the cradle to help build the tech.
Where Are Google, Siri, and Bixby?
They’re the big names left out of Amazon’s gathering. Google got a weekend heads‑up, so their evaluation window was tiny.
“We’d love to hop on board if it keeps the ecosystem open, private and secure,” a Google spokesperson said.
Past Collaboration Highlights
Just a couple of years ago, Amazon and Microsoft nearly had a “ping” between their assistants. It was a rare roundup in the assistant world. And now the initiative is humming along!
