Andy Souwer Brings the Boom to ONE’s Super Series

When the Dutch kickboxing legend Andy Souwer steps into ONE Championship, the fans know they’re in for a show that’s bigger than a fireworks finale. With a record of 179‑18‑1 and a stack of world titles in his portfolio, Souwer is gearing up to add the newest trophy to his already overflowing cabinet.

From Bus – to Battle – The Early Days

Growing up in Den Bosch, Souwer’s family pressure was nothing short of a daily training session. “Dad always wanted me to succeed, so he pushed me hard. Back then I hated it, but now I’m grateful for that pressure,” he told us.

Like many kids, he fell victim to asthma and allergies, which a doctor suggested could be managed through sports. He tried swimming and soccer, earning a spot on a professional youth team, but life had a different script for him.

  • Asthma hits – find a sport quick!
  • Swim, soccer, then combat sports
  • Soccer pals got nicked; kickboxing helped defend.

Cross‑Training Chaos and a Hard Decision

Souwer juggled soccer and kickboxing for a while, pocketing about NLGƒ3,000 (roughly USD$1,750) per fight. When a 17‑year‑old ankle injury forced him to pause, he had to pick a side:

“When I was 18, I told Dad, it’s time to quit soccer. I had to cancel fights with serious cash on the line. He said, ‘Choose kickboxing.’”

It was the right call. He found himself fighting legends in Dutch promotions.

Notable Showdowns

  • Fought Ramon Dekkers and top Thai fighters
  • Hosted 4 Shoot Boxing S‑Cup titles
  • Won 2 K‑1 World MAX titles
  • Accumulated several world championships across WPKA, ISKA, and WKA

Why the ONE Super Series?

After a promising career and a venturesome party-and-events side gig, Souwer wasn’t ready to hang up the gloves. “I signed an eight‑bout contract with ONE Championship for two years,” he claims, eyes glittering at the prospect of fresh battles.

He’s set to take on Anthony “The Assassin” Njokuani in a lightweight bout at ONE: Kingdom of Heroes on 6 October in Bangkok.

Super‑Series Aspirations

He’s determined to “be the guy I want to be – and be Andy Souwer.” One Super Series gold could not only crown him as a champion but also prove that a legendary fighter can still shine.

Forget the past, the future’s bright: watch this seasoned pro may hit the ground running and climb toward another world title.
