Will Eric Holder Get Life Behind Bars?
On Thursday, September 14, a judge will decide whether Eric Ronald Holder, the 32‑year‑old caught shooting Grammy‑winning rapper Nipsey Hussle in March 2019, spends the rest of his life locked up.
The Shoot‑Out That Changed Two Lives
It all started outside Hussle’s clothing store in south Los Angeles, where the two men met “by chance.” After a quick chat, Holder left and returned about ten minutes later with a gun. He fired at least ten shots, killing Hussle and wounding two others.
Defense’s “Heat of Passion” Hook
- Aaron Jansen, the public defender, admitted Holder shot Hussle.
- Jansen argued that the attack wasn’t premeditated but rather sparked by the heat of passion.
- Holder heard Hussle mention rumors that he’d “snitched” to the police—a claim which made Holder feel like his reputation was under siege.
- Holder didn’t testify in court.
Additional Charge
Holder also faced a conviction for attempted voluntary manslaughter, covering the two bystanders who got hurt.
Hussle’s Legacy
Known professionally as Hussle (stylised as Hu$$le), the rapper’s real name was Airmiess Joseph Asghedom. He was 33 when he passed, and posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Hussle’s mixtapes, especially the Bullets Ain’t Got No Name series, earned him a massive following.
What’s Next?
The judge’s decision will determine whether Holder faces life imprisonment or a different sentence. Stay tuned as the story unfolds.
