Workers’ Party Eyes Singapore’s Cost‑of‑Living Crisis in 2024

On New Year’s Eve, Pritam Singh, the party’s fearless leader, warned that the next year will feel like a rollercoaster for many Singaporeans. He pointed to soaring prices for everyday essentials — electricity, trains, doctor visits, hospital emergency fees, you name it — and said the Party will keep a close eye on how the Government tackles these challenges.

What the WP is Promising

Singh’s plan includes new community initiatives that aim to lift lift the shoulders of those feeling the pinch the hardest.

  • Bursary for Primary Schoolers – The WP is continuing a pilot that started in Aljunied GRC and Hougang, and will now extend it to Sengkang GRC. The scholarship is meant to cover school fees and books, giving kids a brighter future.
  • Senior Hand‑i‑Help – A pilot subsidy will give seniors who live alone ship in handy‑man services. Imagine reaching out to help with that leaky tap or that stuck door!
  • Housing & Tax Reform – The WP has already pushed for more accessible HDB rental flats, introduced wealth‑tax motion at Parliament, and advocated for anti‑discrimination and minimum‑wage laws.

“We’ll Keep Refresher Updates,” says Singh

The Party, together with its WP Community Fund and a commercial partner, wants to ensure that policies aren’t stuck in the past. “We’re not just looking back, we’re looking forward,” the MP emphasized. He cited recent efforts to integrate the tudung (headscarf) into public service and push workplace anti‑discrimination.

Appreciations– Special Thanks to Frontliners

Singh also extended heartfelt condolences and gratitude to all the frontliners and healthcare workers who fought the pandemic. He thanked civil servants, town council officers, and contractors for keeping the welfare of WP residents at the forefront.

Made with Love by the Workers’ Party

So if you’re worried about the rising cost of living, stay tuned — the WP is on its way to help you and your family navigate the tougher times ahead.
