Emmys Go Hostless – A New Twist for the TV Oscars
In a move that’s as bold as a cliff‑hanger finale, the Emmy Awards are ditching the traditional host this year. Fox Corp. says the extra minutes will be devoted to saluting some of the biggest show finales of 2024.
Why Skip the Host?
- More Spotlight – Cancelling the customary monologue and opening number frees up 15‑20 minutes that would otherwise go to a single performer.
- End‑of‑Season Celebration – Series like Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory, and Veep wrapped up this year, and the Emmy producers want to give them a proper send‑off.
- Modern Spin – It’s following the Oscars’ recent trend of taking a hostless path, after comedian Kevin Hart was pulled back.
What Will the Show Look Like?
According to Charlie Collier, Fox’s chief exec, the ceremony will still offer “entertainment,” with an opening number and surprises – just, without a presidential-style monologue. “The hostless format lets us honour the shows that just finished,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association event.
Audience & Ratings Boost
The Oscars’ hostless night saw a 12% jump in viewership last year. While our Emmy ratings are still to be determined, Fox is hoping the same effect will bring in more fans eager to see the honors for their favorite final seasons.
Stay tuned – the Emmy Awards broadcast will land on September 22nd, promising a fresh, drama‑filled, and perhaps a bit less predictable evening of television awards.
