Charlie’s Final Farewell
Last Friday, November 9th, England’s very own brave little fighter, five‑year‑old Charlie Proctor, slipped away from a rare, relentless liver cancer – Hepatoblastoma – after a heartfelt apology to his mum.
One‑Last Whisper
- “Mummy, I’m so sorry for this,” choked out Charlie in what his mother, Amber Schofield, described as “the most quiet, panting voice.”
- Amber said the boy was restless, constantly shifting positions, “as if he needed to apologize for any bump on our lives.”
- She also shared how her heart shattered: “No child should feel the emotions Charlie is feeling. No child! No parent should watch their child slowly go.”
“He Fell Asleep In My Arms”
After the quiet leaving, Amber posted, “He fell asleep peacefully cuddled in my arms with daddy’s arms wrapped around us. Our hearts are aching.” She added a note that Charlie “gave me (the) chance to be a mum” and called him a source of inspiration for thousands worldwide. “Now it’s time to fly, I’m so, so proud of you. You fought this so hard.”
Charlie’s Heroic Journey
Since 2016, Charlie battled a rare liver cancer. His parents, Amber and Ben Proctor, tried to raise £855,580 (roughly $1.53 million) for an organ transplant in the U.S., reaching almost half the goal. Even U.K. pop star Pink contributed £10,000.
Remembering a Brave Boy
Charlie may have been physically tiny, but his story is anything but. He taught us how to keep hope alive even when life spells the hardest curves.
