Tragic Fire at Koszalin Escape Room Leaves Five Young Women Dead
What Happened?
On the night of Jan. 4, a raging blaze erupted in a popular escape room in the northern Polish city of Koszalin. The room was packed with teenage girls—every one 15—celebrating a birthday when sparks turned into a full‑blown fire and, unfortunately, a tragedy.
Victims and Injuries
The blaze took the lives of five girls and left one adult badly scalded. Local sources say the somber man, about 25, was rushed straight to an intensive‑care unit for severe burns.
- Five 15‑year‑old girls – all lost their lives in the fiery confusion.
- One 25‑year‑old man – suffering serious burns and currently in ICU.
Inside the Escape Room
The escape room’s premise? Locked in a dim room, players get an hour to crack clues and escape. Fun for most, but this night it turned into a nightmare.
Official Response
Interior Minister Joachim Brudzinski called the incident “a profound tragedy” and told TVN24 that the girls were all on a birthday celebration. He’s also making sure that every one of the roughly 1,000 escape rooms nationwide get a strict fire‑safety check.
Fire chief Tomasz Kubiak confirmed that the victims were women, and police chief Monika Kosiec added the man is 25. The origin of the fire remains a mystery—no official cause yet.
Polish authorities are scrambling to investigate and to roll out safety checks across the country. The next time you book an escape room, check the fire safety signs—because you never know when “sparks” may become “fire”.
