Comey Fires Back at Trump, Demands Republicans Stand Up
In the halls of the U.S. Senate, a former FBI chief bashes the president
James Comey took a stand on Tuesday, ruffling the feathers of President Donald Trump. He warned that the rule of law is in danger and called on Republicans to “say what’s true.”
- Comey called Trump’s recent tweets “lies” that are damaging the FBI’s reputation.
- He urged Republican lawmakers to stop staying silent when the president speaks falsely.
- Comey reminded the Senate that the FBI has, in all fairness, had a court order to enter Michael Cohen’s office.
The Trump–FBI Back‑and‑Forth
Over the last week, Trump unleashed a barrage of tweets accusing the FBI of a “witch hunt” against his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen, and spilling out allegations that former national security adviser Michael Flynn was tricked into lying. Trump claimed:
“The FBI did something which was absolutely unthinkable & unheard of until the Witch Hunt was illegally started. They BROKE INTO AN ATTORNEY’S OFFICE!”
But remember – the FBI had a court order to search Cohen’s office.
While Trump wrote about Flynn, he deflected serious accusations with:
“So General Michael Flynn’s life can be totally destroyed while Shadey James Comey can Leak and Lie.”
Comey’s Open Accusation
Comey didn’t hold back. He said:
“People who know better, including Republican members of this body, have to have the courage to stand up and speak the truth.”
He questioned the silence of many Republicans, reminding them that the actions of a president and the words of a president matter – as does the truth itself.

In a second closed‑door testimony, Comey answered tough questions about a 2016 email mishap involving former rival Hillary Clinton. The Justice Department sealed that investigation, but Trump and his loyalists want it reopened.
- Trump fired Comey in May 2017 for refusing to drop the Russia collusion probe.
- Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now looking into whether the firing and other actions amounted to obstruction of justice.
What’s Next?
Comey’s rallying cry is loud and clear: Republicans can’t keep quiet. The country’s values should stand up against fear—be that of Fox News, the faithful base, or mean tweets.
Will they? Time will tell. For now, the former FBI chief has laid a tough challenge on a political crew that once rallied behind the very man he now calls out.
