What’s Happening at Maxwell Food Centre
Uncle Sky (Tian Tian Lai) at Maxwell Food Centre is handing out free plates of chicken rice every Wednesday, up to 100 people born on or before 31 December 1949. Each eligible guest draws a numbered card from the stall owner, and can snag up to two free meals a day.
So if you’re a Merdeka Generation member, you’re not left in the dust—just drop by for a $1.50 plate, which is half the usual price, anytime, all day, every day, until the stall is gone.

Meet Mr. Oon—The Heart Behind the Deal
At 42, Mr. Oon has been selling chicken rice for 20 years, but last Saturday he told Shin Min Daily News that the promotion started on 14 June to “support the elderly in the community the way I can.” He said he may add more cards if the response is good. Mr. Oon kept his grandfather’s legacy alive by opening Uncle Sky only two months ago.
