Grab Unveils Innovation Hub to Ignite Southeast Asian Tech Startups

Grab’s Bold Leap Into the Future of Southeast Asia

Grab, the ride‑hailing giant that started as a simple taxi app, is turning its eyes toward the big picture. In late June, the company unveiled Grab Ventures, its fresh‑skinned innovation arm set to chase tech titans in transport, food delivery, logistics, and finance.

Why Now?

Grab’s roots are deep in Southeast Asia’s underground traffic, but the company’s appetite for change has never been bigger. After scooping up Uber’s regional fleet earlier this year, it’s clear that click‑and‑go transport is just the beginning.

“We’re staking out a future where Grab is the go‑to app for every lifestyle switch,” said Chris Yeo, the creative mastermind behind Grab Ventures. “If some clever tech can help us build a seamless online‑to‑offline (O2O) experience, we’re all in.”

Building the Future, One Startup at a Time

Grab Ventures plans to double‑take the startup scene in two routes: in‑house innovation and collaborations with existing players. Its current stash includes the autonomous‑car tech firm Drive.ai and the fin‑tech wave Kudo from Indonesia.

Over the next 24 months, the company aims to partner with 8‑10 growth‑stage startups, and it’s even eyeing a handful for direct investment.

Government & Private‑Sector Partnerships

  • Engaging with agencies like Singapore’s Info‑communications Media Development Authority and Enterprise Singapore.
  • Seeking private‑sector allies to help scale tech solutions across the region.
  • Providing an accelerator that hands out expertise, vital tech, and a network of industry allies.
The Acceleration Engine

Grab Ventures’ accelerator is a one‑stop shop where startups get:

  • Expert mentorship from seasoned tech veterans.
  • Hands‑on technical resources to bring new ideas to life.
  • Access to a sprawling network that can fast‑track deployment.

With that, Grab sets its sights on turning the relentless engine of Southeast Asia’s bustling economies into a single, connected mobile platform—making it easier than a tap to grab whatever you need, when you need it.
