Grab App Glitch Turns Every Ride into a $6 Charity Spot
Just this past Thursday, Singapore’s biggest ride‑hailing app, Grab, accidentally priced every trip at a mere six dollars. It’s the kind of glitch that turns your commute into a surprise fundraiser.
What Happened?
At about 3:15 pm, drivers on Facebook began reporting a sudden drop in fare calculations. The app was showing the same flat rate of $6 for rides that normally cost much more.
- A trip from Anson Road to Boon Lay (usually >$15) now reads $6.
- A trip from Sengkang to Clementi also sold out for just $6.
Consequently, many drivers opted to cancel longer journeys, leaving commuters scrambling for alternative transport.
Drivers’ Reactions
One driver jokingly posted:
“Please don’t go online yet unless you want to do charity.”
Another driver worried about earnings reached out in a private Facebook message, hinting that the glitch could spark a “donation scare” among the rideshare community.
Grab’s Response
Grab’s spokesperson acknowledged the hiccup and promised a quick fix:
“We’re dealing with a computation failure in the Grab app that’s giving everyone a $6 fare. We’re working hard to correct it as soon as possible,”
“All completed rides will be honored at their normal price, and affected driver‑partners who earned less will receive compensation.”
“We also pledge that your payment rates and cancellation metrics will stay unchanged once the glitch period ends.”
Both the company and drivers have apologized for the inconvenience, and Grab assured patrons that the glitch’s impact would be temporary.
Looking Forward
While the $6 glitch left many riders on edge, Grab has vowed to fix the issue and restore fair pricing. Drivers will get their regular earnings back, and commuters should get their fare for next week without any charity involvement.
