Hwa Chong Teacher Faces Drug Charges in Singapore
On Friday, Jan 4, a teacher from Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) was called to court to answer serious drug‑related complaints, including the use of methamphetamine.

- Christopher David Burge – a 65‑year‑old British teacher.
- First charged on Sept 22 of the previous year.
- Accused of trying to keep five packets of an unknown crystal substance between Sept 14 and 19, which turned out to contain at least 3.6 g of meth.
- Shot for allegedly using the drug on Sept 20.
What was found?
- At 11:20 pm on the 20th, Burge was spotted near Linden Drive (Eng Neo Ave) with drug tech‑items: a glowy glass set with a straw and a pipe.
- He was also in possession of around 6.12 g of a plant material that, when tested, revealed the synthetic cannabinoid 5‑Fluoro‑MDMB‑PINACA.
Current Status
He’s out on a $10,000 bail after the court said they’ll need another four weeks to finalize his medical report. He’s expected to appear again on Feb 1.
