Last Call: Dive into the 2022 Army Open House in Bishan, June 10‑12

Why Your Social Media Feeds Are Full of Camo?

Think you’re seeing an overload of camouflage patterns online? You’re probably missing out on this year’s Army Open House (AOH22). Your friends have likely spent their weekends kicking back at the F1 Pit Building, where the main event made an enthusiastic comeback after five years.

“Generations of Strength” – Celebrating 55 Years of Service

The theme “Generations of Strength” perfectly matched the National Service milestone (NS55). Thank you, soldier families, for honoring the sacrifice that keeps Singapore safe. Hormat!

Couldn’t Make It to the Pit Building?

No sweat – you can still join the celebration:

  • AOH22 Virtual Exhibition: Dive into interactive showcases from the comfort of your living room.
  • AOH22@Heartlands: Catch the final weekend in Bishan if you missed Punggol last week.

What Lies Inside the Military Wonderland

  • Army Formations Zone: Grab your own camo rocket – or just touch a rifle if that creeps you out. Real weapons, real enthusiasm.
  • Kids Zone: From face‑paint sessions in “camo‑cream” to virtual Army uniforms, child soldiers (markie; no actual combat mention) can run a mini obstacle course and navigate a jungle maze – perfect for future frontline leaders.
  • Soldier Strong Arena: Wonder how our men go from fresh droples to fit soldiers? Check out state‑of‑the‑art sports science, fitness gear, and wearable tech that boosted Army training. Think you’re a powerhouse? Take the tyre‑pull and push‑up challenge – pro tip: it’s not a parkour test, just pure muscle power.

So the next time you scroll past that funky camo pattern, remember – your friends are probably cheering, flexing, and enjoying a military experience that’s both nostalgic and exhilarating. Power up, SP, and keep your feed cutting edge!

Army Open House 2022: More Than Just a Backyard Bash

A Tradition Comes to Life

At the Army Open House (AOH) 2022 in Bishan, the vibe was fun, wow, and spectacular. But beyond fireworks and coffee, the event is packed with lessons that stick with you long after the curtain falls.

Calvin Pak’s Nostalgia

Calvin Pak shared a sweet story in his Instagram highlight. “My dad used to bring me to AOH every time when I was a kid, and I’d never break that tradition—except when my dad was out of town. So I decided to bring my little one along to experience this grand outdoor event and soak up the excitement,” he wrote. Aww!

Jeremy Ratnam’s Perspective

Over in Punggol, Jeremy Ratnam—family man and AOH regular—spoke about why these gatherings matter. He reminded us that the “Army Open House” isn’t just a playground for adults. It’s a chance for kids to learn teamwork, confidence, and, yes, some cool uniforms.

  • Kids see their parents working hard, and it sparks a sense of pride.
  • The event shows that discipline can be fun.
  • Parents get a chance to bond, sharing laughs over campfire stories.

What’s in Store for 2022

Want a sneak peek of what you’ll find at AOH22 this Saturday through Monday?

Grab your t‑shirt, your spirit, and your appetite for adventure—Bishan is ready to entertain & enlighten.

Hi Jeremy! You and your family (wife Jamie, and four kids, Danielle, Nicole, Junior and Kevin) popped by AOH22@Punggol. What did you enjoy most?

Fresh From the Field: Ratnams Take on the Mini-Obstacle Course

The Ratnams packed a punch of excitement, from slashing through a Mini-Obstacle Course to splashing on face paint made from the army’s very own camo‑cream. Those childhood eyes widened like a kitten at a mouse—those “big‑ish” army assets felt bigger than life, and the kids were legit living in the moments they’d only ever seen on TV or magazines.

Kids Impressed by the Medic‑Tent Twist

  • The medic untangled a vehicle and transformed it into a makeshift medical tent.
  • Someone gave a live demo on how to bandage like a pro—think “Band‑Aid Essentials: Module 1.”
  • “Next time I’m learning to tie a turban,” a boy laughed—clear proof that the demo was legit.

NS55 Showcase & Pledge Deck

The children dove into the NS55 pledge showcase, where they could design their own “thank‑you” messages for the National Service folks. With templates, emojis (in bulk), fonts, and a rainbow of colours, the kids decked out their pledges with the kind of flair that would make a poster designer swoon.

Unforgettable Photo Ops with the SAR21

There were a few photo ops, but the SAR21 won the game. The mascot cannon struck the perfect angle and then the photographer slipped it to the wall—resulting in a photo that was so pristine, you’d swear it was a Hall‑mark award piece. “It looked too good to be real,” one of the kid’s parents said. We could all cheer that it was!

AOH may be a fun, family-friendly event. But why is it also important for the average Singaporean (like you and your family)?

Step Into the Future of the Singapore Army

Ever wondered what the Singapore Army looks like in action? First‑hand view is all you need to get the full scoop.

Why It Matters

It’s not just about drills and uniforms. Seeing the equipment in motion, and diving into VR tech, gives you clarity on where the army is heading.

What’s on Display

  • Tanks & Armored Vehicles – hear the rumble, feel the power.
  • Combat Drones – sleek, silent, soldiers’ new eyes in the sky.
  • Advanced Weaponry – test‑driven, battle‑ready, and ready to wow.
  • VR Training Modules – jump into simulated missions without leaving your chair.

So grab a front‑row seat, and get a clearer snapshot of the army’s growing prowess. It’s more than just a display; it’s a glimpse into tomorrow’s battlefield.

You have two boys, Kevin (aged 13) and Junior (aged 12). As a dad and someone who’s been through NS himself, how do you think the AOH experience is beneficial for your sons?

First Taste of the Trenches

It might not be the ultimate hands‑on experience, but it’s definitely opened their eyes to a whole world of equipment, drill commands, and epic army stories.

  • Kevin and Junior now have a clear head start on what’s ahead in the next few years.
  • They’ve got a sneak peek into the gear that’ll be a part of their future adventures.
  • Getting a taste of the command structure, they’re already practicing the art of the “move!” and the “ahead!”.

So, while the real action is still on the horizon, the groundwork is solid. They’re ready to take the plunge when the time comes!

The theme of AOH22 is “Generations of Strength” to commemorate 55 years of National Service. How is that significant to you?

Bridging Generations: The Singapore Army Story

Why It Matters

We’re not just talking about uniforms and drills—we’re talking about family moments that have just begun to surface.

  • Fathers can now pick up the thread of military values and pass it on to their sons.
  • It feels like the next generation is getting a starter pack of discipline, pride, and a chance to see the “why” behind the service.
  • Each shared story shifts the narrative from “I served” to “I shared”, carrying a legacy that is genuinely ours.

A Personal Note

My dad was just shy of that golden era—late 1960s—when the army welcomed new recruits. He missed the cut, so the responsibility now lands on me: to weave whatever I know into his story and hand it down to my own children. It’s a solemn promise, but also a light‑hearted mission—imagine splitting a bag of chips and passing it down.

During your national service, you were with the Defence Procurement Division (DPD) that used to be at Paya Lebar Airport. What is your best memory of NS?

Stargazing on the Night Shift

Ever wonder why a night guard would get up at odd hours? Because they love the sky. While my colleagues were wired to keep our defenses tight, I was more fascinated by the constellations above.

Why the Night?

  • It’s all about the dark backdrop of Paya Lebar Airport.
  • Clearer skies mean the stars shine brighter—perfect for a casual astronomer.
  • Plus, the quieter air helps me stay alert without the usual daylight buzz.

Spotlight: AOH22@Bishan Festival

When the lights are off, the show starts! Don’t miss:

  • High‑energy dance & band performances that’ll keep you dancing even if you’re still on guard duty.
  • Photos with military working dogs—because who doesn’t want a picture with a hero in fur?

Switch the ship’s lights on or off—just remember the starry skies and the epic lineup await your attention.
