Tragic Night in Malmö: One Lost, Four Wounded, and a City on Edge
In a chilling flash of violence on Monday night, the cozy town of Malmo woke up to the harsh reality that not all evenings in Sweden are filled with sun and ice cream. An unlucky 18‑year‑old lost his life, while four others were dragged by bandages to the nearest hospital.
The Incident
- Location: Coastal corner of Malmo, southern Sweden
- Time: 2:48 am on June 19, 2018
- Victims: One confirmed fatality, four wounded
- Current Status: Police have not yet made any arrests
Police Statements
The city’s police chief, Stephan Soderholm, (who’s probably sipping a nice fika in his spare time) stated, “An 18‑year‑old man died during the night.”
Unfortunately, there’s no sign that this tragedy is a terrorist plot. “It doesn’t appear to be related to terrorism,” he added, which, at least, takes the sting out of the story a bit.
What’s Next?
The police are still sealing off the scene and interrogating witnesses—though, the next time you’re in Malmo, make sure your cameras aren’t recording edgy fashion blogs because you never know when a Max and a half might need to speed up the line for the next opportunity.
