Millennials Trade E‑Commerce for Claypot Rice: Hawker Stall Now Closed

When Dreams Turn Into Claypot Dreams

Damien Foo (31) and Will Chua (33) swapped their e‑commerce hustle for the sizzling world of hawker food. Their recent announcement on April 20 (via Facebook) declared the closure of Xin Xin Claypot on April 23—the stall that served up claypot rice like a humble kitchen wizard.

The Sweet Goodbye

  • “It’s been a wonderful chapter with new friendships forged and valuable experiences gained,” the duo said. They thanked the community for all the support and promised future encounters.
  • When we asked, they explained the decision was rooted in the inability to cover the cost of running a hawker stall.

What’s Next?

Damien hinted at possibilities of re‑opening the claypot stall elsewhere someday. Until then, he and Will will take on temporary gigs while scouting for the next kitchen spot.

From College to Café

  • First met at SIM Global Education in 2009.
  • Reconnected in 2016 to dive into drop‑shipping.
  • By 2018, they swung the pendulum to the F&B veld.

Family Fortune

Thanks to Damien’s parents—who already ran a bee hoon & porridge stall at Kovan 209 Market—technology, the duo secured a space. Their dealership was split: parents in the mornings, Damien & Will in the afternoons & evenings.

With the stall closing for good, the parents plan to retire.
