Najib’s Daughter Demands Better Care for Her Dad
In a startling move today, Nooryana Najwa, the daughter of former Malaysian PM Najib Razak, took to social media and pleaded that her father, currently locked up, receive proper medical attention.
What’s the Backstory?
- Najib, 69, is serving a 12‑year sentence for a massive corruption scandal tied to 1MDB.
- He was convicted in August after the high court turned down his appeal against the graft and money‑laundering charges.
- On top of the jail term, he faces nearly $50 million in fines and is still on trial in four more cases.
The Hospital Incident
On Sept 4, Najib was admitted for a routine check‑up at a Kuala Lumpur hospital. He managed to attend a court hearing the next day.
Fast forward to Sept 10, and doctors again examined him, prescribing new medication and then—shock—sending him back to the Kajang prison. Nooryana claims they denied his request to remain under observation at the hospital.
Nooryana’s Emotional Plea
She wrote: “On humanitarian grounds, our family pleads with the prison authority, the hospital and (the) government to do the right thing and allow for dad to receive proper medical care and observation.”
She added her dad’s blood pressure is “dangerously high” and he’s battling stomach ulcers that have been a long‑running issue for over fifteen years.
Where is the Response?
The hospital and the Prison Department have yet to comment. Meanwhile, Najib is expected to appear again in court on Monday morning for another trial over corruption, with a hospital visit in the afternoon slated to follow.
As authorities juggle legal proceedings and medical needs, Nooryana’s appeal has pulled the eye of the nation back onto the old PM’s health and the adequacy of prison healthcare in Malaysia.
