Season Two Starts: Meet Ramattra, the New Tank on Overwatch 2
After a very short first month, Overwatch 2 is gearing up for Season Two. If you thought Kiriko was the only surprise from the first semester, hold onto your hats – a brand‑new tank is on the horizon.
Who is Ramattra?
- Voiced by the same guy who gave us deep‑voiced voices in Dragon Age and Dark Souls III – Ramon Tikaram.
- He first showed up as a short “origin story” video during the Grand Finals of the Overwatch League, and that’s where the whole “war‑machine” vibe starts.
- Ramattra used to be a peaceful monk in the Shambali, like Zenyatta, but when his brethren ran into endless prejudice and violence, he decided to flip the switch and lead the Null Sector.
What’s He Bringing to the Team?
Ramattra will drop into the game on December 6th with a tank loadout that’s going to shake things up.
His look is a nod to fans of the Storm Rising event (the face reveal included a little design tweak), so if you remember that cinematic, you’ll instantly spot him.
Other “anti‑heroes” that’ll share the waters with him are Doomfist, Moira, Reaper, Sombra, Sigma, and Widowmaker.
Toolbox Preview – Two Forms, One Cool Feature
Unlike Wrecking Ball or Bastion, Ramattra can toggle between two distinct states:
- Omnic form – the cool, calm robot version.
- Nemesis form – the big, burly beast, activated after a cooldown.
Think of it as a “switch” you’ll only hit when the situation calls for it – not something you can just blur over.
Behind the Scenes: The Design Story
Art director Dion Rogers spilled a few gems during a Geek Culture interview:
“We always knew Ramattra would be a tank, but the Nemesis form really feels like the Hulk coming alive.”
“In the Nemesis state he becomes a menacing, powerful presence – a change big enough to match his heroic fantasy but still recognizable as the same hero.”
“When you’re playing, figuring out the right time to swap between forms adds a whole new layer of strategy.”
How This Affects Gameplay
We’ll see how the new tank messes with old tank habits in upcoming matches.
- Will he out‑maneuver Zenyatta on the battlefield?
- Can his unique rampage trigger shift create new combo opportunities?
What’s Next?
More details are coming soon, so keep an eye on the official announcements.
Remember, the first season of the Battle Pass is kicking off with Kiriko and a cyber‑punk Genji skin – a sweet start for newcomers and veterans alike.
Stay tuned and enjoy the ride – Overwatch 2 is just getting warmer!
