Straw‑Weight Showdown: Umar vs. Rozten 2.0
Ready to pound the air again on September 22? Indonesian straw‑weight champion Riski Umar is gearing up for a rematch with the regional boxing champ Egi Rozten at ONE: CONQUEST OF HEROES in Jakarta.
Back‑to‑Back Battle
It wasn’t their first time sharing the same mat. In January, ONE: KINGS OF COURAGE, Rozten stepped in at the last minute and took on Umar. The fight went down to 40 seconds left in the first round when Umar claimed victory with a stunning knockout that showcased his Muay Thai prowess.
New Techniques, Same Determination
- “I’ve been training serious new tactics for the second go-around, but I can’t spill the beans.”
- “I’ll keep a safe distance; Rozten is an aggressive boxer. Timing is key.”
- “I’ll mix boxing, kicking, knee and elbow strikes.”
- “Rozten dominates in straight shots, but I’ve got Muay Thai and Taekwondo in my toolkit to keep him at bay.”
Umar’s confidence is palpable — a testament to his relentless work ethic.
From Submissions to Strikes
After a successful debut in the straw‑weight division against Doan Birawa where he pulled off a rear‑naked choke at ONE: GRIT AND GLORY, Umar admitted there’s plenty of room to improve.
“Even though I won, I still have to guard against takedowns and counter‑attacks. I need to be more disciplined, train harder, and avoid ‘open‑hand’ mistakes.” he said. He’s moved his training base from Bali MMA to Tiger Muay Thai, pairing up with Matthew Semper from the ONE Super Series and tackling a full schedule of hill sprints, pad work, wrestling, grappling, and sparring.
Why the Switch?
“The gym is perfect for honing my skills,” Umar explained. “The variety keeps me sharp across all disciplines.”
Rising Goal
With the rematch on the horizon, Umar aims to climb the ONE straw‑weight ladder and one day secure a world‑title shot. “Every win brings me closer,” he says with unwavering zeal.
