Yo, the Bad Burger of the Month
Picture this: you’re scrolling through Foodpanda on a Saturday night, craving that legendary Ching Hao Wei Zi char from Block 450 Clementi Ave 3. You hit “Order”, and before you know it, the cash register lights go off. The next thing you do is open the app at 7:30 pm and a flood of wait‑listed dishes arrives at your doorstep.
The Menu That Wasn’t
- Yong Chow fried rice – $5.50
- Slice of fish soup – $8.00
- Hor fun with egg gravy – $5.50
All good, right? But then, the surprise twist pops up: a cooked cockroach scurrying around in the hor fun. Luckily, Jamie managed to snap a photo before the dish went to his taste buds.
Jamie’s Reaction
“It was pure, utterly disgusting,” Jamie said, “I hadn’t even touched the rest of the food, so I left everything in the same kitchen.” He didn’t go on to eat it. Instead, he hit “Refund” on Foodpanda and reported the incident to the National Environment Agency. In a bold move, he also asked the whole internet community to share the story to help others avoid getting sick.
We’ve Got More…
Just two weeks, and Stomp’s been erupting with creepy news. Earlier in July, a Stomp contributor named May found a fly in her wanton soup from Pontian Wanton Noodles when she ordered through the GrabFood app on the 11th. GrabFood refunded her order, much like the later Foodpanda incident.
What Do You Do If You Get a Cockroach?
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) says the best rule of thumb is a simple “no” – don’t eat the bad food, don’t go back to that stall, and then report it. You can do that easily on www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback. The agency will look into the hummockingly unsanitary practice.
So, next time you’re in that midweek mood for a local noodle fix, keep your eyes peeled and your sayings ready. Because none of us want an extra presenting guest (the pounds of the extra insect!) at our table.
That’s a wrap from Stomp – thanks for sticking with us. If you’ve had a similar horror recipe, drop it in the comments or share it. Let’s keep ourselves and our plates clean, together.
