Glass Break Crash at Icon@IBP: Six People Take the Hit

When the Glance Went Out of Control

It was a sunny Sunday at the foodcourt of Icon@IBP in Jurong East, and the usual buzz of chatter met an unexpected splash. A glass panel, probably thinking it wanted to be a door, shattered right in the middle of the crowds, leaving six unlucky diners with a quick lesson in the fragility of our building materials.

Who Got the Banged Up?

Six people were hurt during the incident, most of them jamming at tables adjacent to the broken glass. An eyewitness, 27‑year‑old Liu Yi De, told a local daily that the person who got the roughest cut was sitting the very closest to the shattered panel, ending up with a handful of fresh cuts and wounds.

Breaking the Scene

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) rushed in at 12:25 pm, answering the alarming call at 3A International Business Park Road. Three of the injured folks decided they’d rather stay home, while one received medical attention at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and then got discharged later that day.

Owner’s Word

  • Mr Tan Yew Chin, CEO of Ascendas‑Singapore‑South‑East Asia and the company that manages the venue, confirmed the six injuries. One person was sent to the hospital, the rest had minor bumps.
  • “We’re treating this seriously and will keep in touch with everyone that was affected,” the CEO assured. “Safety is still our top priority.”

What’s Next?

The building’s management team is combing through the incident to find out why that glass panel decided to show off its breaking points. They’re also pledging extra steps to make sure nothing like this happens again.
