Father Gets Jailed After Nightmare Ways of Using a Bed
Picture this: a 14‑year‑old girl and her dad sharing a big queen‑size bed in a cozy Singapore flat. Sounds like a normal Sunday night, right? Well, one night in January, the dad decided to abuse that trust and started pushing the limits – literally.
The Shock Beginning
In the dead of January, the father began by groping the teen’s chest. Then, two months later, when she was half‑asleep, he slipped his hand to the most intimate areas. The girl was too scared to speak up and mentioned that she felt “disturbed and embarrassed” every time the dad pressed his arm around her.
How the Story Unfolded
Her school teacher noticed a sudden change in her behaviour. Rather than just suspecting a bad day, the teacher reached out to the school counsellor, and that’s when the “tale” finally came out. A counsellor, hinting at the seriousness, let the Ministry of Social and Family Development know what was happening.
Under the supervision of an officer, the girl was escorted to the police station and filed a formal report – the first step toward justice.
The Court’s Decision
On May 21, Judge Ng Cheng Thiam handed down a 16‑month prison sentence after the 52‑year‑old dad pleaded guilty to single charge of “outrage of modesty.” A second, heavier charge was also weighed in before the final term.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Seah Ee Wei argued that the dad, who should have protected his daughter, instead exploited the family’s trust to touch her when she was half‑asleep.
Meanwhile, defence counsel Ashwin Ganapathy offered a mitigating argument, claiming the dad was a “pornography addict” with difficulty controlling his urges. Vice‑president of the Ministry warned that the strain of such a crime could plain the doors to a maximum two‑year jail sentence plus fines or, for those under 50, caning.
Protecting Pure Hearts
Father’s action is a reminder: every child deserves a safe bed. If you spot any abusive sign, always act fast – a bit of bravery in the right moment can change lives for the better.
