When a “Danger” Flag Goes Off in Singapore
Last Friday (September 10), a 31‑year‑old Singaporean found himself in district court for some kicking‑up‑the‑wind drama with his wife.
What’s the Big Deal?
- Two counts of criminal intimidation – basically threatening the lady in a way that rattles the nerves.
- Two counts of using criminal force – that’s basically physical aggression that goes past the legal line.
- Two counts of assault – get a bit more serious, basically punching or pushing over a line.
Why the Court Won’t Name Him
A gag order is in place to keep the man’s name off the radar. The court’s protecting the wife’s identity, so everyone has to play “Police & Confidential.”
Backstory – The “Timeline” That Made the News
- On October 17 last year, the wife picked up a call at about 2 p.m. She told the police that her husband was brand‑new to the “knife‑threat” scene.
- By October 24, the guy was hauled into custody.
- Just a day before that phone call, the husband allegedly choke-dropped her and shoved her against a bathroom wall in a flat on Aljunied Crescent.
- He also threatened to bring in his “room‑mate gang” for some “special treatment” – go figure!
What Could Happen if He Loses?
In Singapore, the laws are pretty clear:
- Using criminal force: up to 3 months in jail or a $1,500 fine, or both.
- Criminal intimidation: up to 2 years in jail or a fine, or both.
The court is adjourned to October 1, so medical records, evidence, and maybe a tense coffee break will decide the next chapter.
