Singapore Reports 12 New COVID Cases, 9 Tied to Safra Jurong Dinner
On Sunday, the Ministry of Health tallied 12 fresh COVID‑19 positives in Singapore. Nine of them swam in the same bowl—linked to a private dinner at Safra Jurong on Feb 15. The remaining three are a mix of a linked case, an imported case, and a mystery guest.
Safra Jurong Cluster Highlights
- 58‑year‑old Singaporean woman, hairdresser from Jurong West Street 74—felt the smell of fever last Tuesday (Mar 3). After a quick GP visit and a second one two days later, the virus finally claimed her on Saturday. Despite being symptomatic, she kept greeting clients, which is why she got traced back to the dinner.
- 69‑year‑old Singaporean man, home‑based cleaner at Nanyang Technological University—housed on Jurong West Street 64. After reporting symptoms last Sunday, he shuffled to a GP, got a ride to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and was confirmed positive Saturday afternoon. The cleanup guy worked the ground‑floor toilets and external space of the NTU Innovation Centre—no direct contact with students or staff. Thankfully, the campus was disinfected, and other cleaners from his company are on leave of absence.
- 64‑year‑old Indonesian, imported case—arrived in Singapore Saturday and was lab‑checked on Sunday morning. No local links, just a classic imported scenario.
That’s a total of 30 cases already in the Safra Jurong cluster, with 8 out of the 12 new cases over 60—a stark reminder that age still matters.
Hospital Snapshot
- 90 patients have fully recovered and left the hospital. No discharges on Sunday.
- Hospitals still house 60 patients—most are stable or on a gentle climb back to health.
- 9 patients in the ICU are in critical condition, but the team is working hard.
Close‑Contact Tracing on the Roll
- Ministry has flagged 3,649 close contacts, all in quarantine.
- Currently 615 people are still in quarantine, while 3,034 have successfully completed their period.
Case 138 Update
The 26‑year‑old guy linked to The Life Church and Missions Singapore had a quarantine battle from Feb 15 to last Friday. After his quarantine ended, he dropped by Safra Punggol, tested positive that very afternoon—another reminder that the chain of contacts can be a real twist of fate.
Stay alert, stay safe, and remember: when you feel a bit off, listen to your body—don’t let it turn into a dinner story!
