Singaporeman Pleads Guilty After Violent Assault on Ex‑Wife

On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, a 35‑year‑old self‑employed Singaporean turned himself in and admitted to a brutal attack on his ex‑wife, breaching a Personal Protection Order (PPO) that was already in place.

Public Outrage at the Pending LRT Station

  • The incident unfolded on 26 August 2018, right in front of the couple’s two children (6‑ and 7‑year‑olds) at the Pending Light Rail Transit station.
  • As the wife declared her intention to leave for her mother’s home, the man seized her hand, demanding she return to their marital flat.
  • When she refused, he punched her face three times in a sudden fit of rage, sending her to the ground unconscious.
  • He didn’t stop there—he kicked her face repeatedly and stomped on her head twice—while the kids cried and begged him to stop.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kenneth Chin recounted that the woman’s face began to bleed and swell. When she called for help, the assailant covered her mouth with a hand, adding insult to injury.

Rescue and Immediate Police Response

Thankfully, bystanders stepped in, immediately alerting authorities. The woman suffered several serious injuries, including a fractured jaw, bruises on her arm and fingers, and bleeding on her skull.

Since that fateful day, the couple has been divorced. The ex‑wife is now receiving the support she needs to heal—both physically and emotionally.

Prior Violations and the 2013 PPO

  • In July 2013, the man had already been issued a PPO prohibiting any violence against his wife or children.
  • Despite this, he chose to unleash needless violence in a public venue, effectively putting his children at risk.
  • The prosecution is seeking no less than 14 months’ jail time for this assault.

He has been granted bail of $15,000 and will return to court for sentencing on January 21, 2024. If convicted of causing grievous hurt, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine, and potentially caning.

Word of Caution

Let’s hope this serves as a stark reminder: domestic violence is not a joke—whether it’s behind the doors or out in public. Families deserve safety, and the law should respect that.
