Singapore’s Latest COVID-19 Hotspots: Five New Clusters, Including a Local Bakery Surge

Singapore COVID‑19 Update: Fresh Clusters Pop Up & A Bakery Gets a Clean‑Sweep

Just when you thought the pandemic had settled into a gentle rhythm, six new clusters have sprang up—five of them in the usual culprits, healthcare and local eateries, and one from a freshly bright‑colored bakery in Jurong. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is on the case and tightening the nets.

Jurong Bakery‑Bite: 6 Cases & a 15‑Day Clean‑Up

  • Location: Home’s Favourite bakery, 15 Jalan Tepong, Jurong Food Hub
  • Cases: 6 linked to the cluster, and the food‑hub’s still feeling the buzz.
  • Action: Closed from 29 July to 12 August for an intense deep‑clean and to curb further spread.
  • Staff: All employees will be tested and sent to quarantine.

We’re sure the pastry‑scented air will be itch‑free once the dust settles.

Other Clusters: 1–3 Cases Each (4 total)

Here’s the short list of the other fresh clusters: they’ve popped up from individual cases, each accounting for a handful of new infections. The overall scene remains ticking at 44 active clusters in Singapore.

Jurong Fishery Port: The Big Cheese

Despite the bakery’s fresh wrinkle, the biggest cluster still is the Jurong Fishery Port—over 932 cases deep in the numbers lake.

Free Testing for Market Go‑Greens

  • Travellers at Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre on 3 Yung Sheng Road get free tests.
  • Time frame: 13–27 July.
  • Reason: lots of fishmongers have been off‑loading stock from Jurong Fishery Port to the market, creating a circulating chain.

Housing Block Hurdle: Mandatory Testing in Ang Mo Kio & Clementi

  • Blocks on 438 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 and 430, 445A Clementi Avenue 3 hit with mandatory testing over the next two days.
  • Households: 6 at 438 AMK had 10 cases, and 13 at the Clementi blocks.
  • Most of them echo the Jurong Fishery Port cluster.
  • Anyone who brushed shoulders with residents in those blocks back in the past fortnight can schedule voluntary testing at palatable regional centers.

Current Numbers

  • Total 136 cases: 130 local, 6 imported.
  • 48 unlinked local cases.
  • Three seniors over 70 (mostly unvaccinated or partially) slipping into serious risk.

Hospital Snapshot

  • 567 patients inside hospital wards.
  • 2 critical in ICU, 23 needing oxygen stay.
  • One of the oxygen patients is fully vaccinated but still down to the chest because of pre‑existing conditions.
  • Sixteen seniors over 60 fell very ill; 15 of them unvaccinated or only part‑way vaccinated.

MOH notes that vaccination keeps the serious damage at bay. Over the last 28 days, 31 local cases needed oxygen or entered ICU or passed away—of which 16 were unvaccinated, 13 partially, and 2 fully vaccinated.

Health Minister’s Heart‑Checking Message

Ong Ye Kung posted a little note on Facebook: 187,000 seniors over 60 are still without a first dose. He’s tackled the idea that vaccines might trigger heart attacks or strokes. He reassured that these conditions happen naturally whatever your vaccination status.

The minister displayed two charts showing heart‑attack and stroke figures have remained relatively [[stab]] steady over recent years—even with a growing seniors population.

His final line: “I hope these numbers provide some peace of mind for seniors and their family members to go ahead and get vaccinated.”

Seniors can stroll into any participating clinic or polyclinic for a vaccine appointment-free. For those with mobility issues, a jabbing service can be arranged at home—just dial 1800‑650‑6060.
