Bus Driver Tragedy Hits Hougang Early Sunday
What Happened
At just 2:47 am, police were notified of a collision on Defu Avenue 1, heading toward Hougang Avenue 3.
An empty SBS Transit shuttle, the driver was steering toward Hougang Depot at 2:40 am, lost control and slammed into a tree just outside the depot.
The Aftermath
- The Civil Defence Force rescued the driver from a jammed seat.
- A paramedic declared him dead on the scene.
- Shuttle’s windscreen was shattered, and footage online shows the vehicle’s wreckage.

SBS Transit’s Vice‑President for Customer Experience, Grace Wu, expressed deep sorrow: “We’re heart‑broken by the loss and stand with his family during this tough time.”
