Tragic Turn at Ayer Rajah Expressway
A sobering reminder that heavy‑traffic can be deadly. Late Friday night, a collision involving two lorries on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) left one man dead and another in custody.
What Went Down
- Both trucks were attempting a lane change simultaneously.
- One lorry mushed head‑first into the rear of the other.
- The impact sent the front vehicle flying into a massive road sign on the shoulder.
Answering the Call
The police received a call at 11.37 pm about the incident near the Marina Coastal Expressway. The Singapore Civil Defence Force rushed to the scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to free a 29‑year‑old passenger trapped inside.
The Aftermath
Unconscious, the passenger was taken to National University Hospital and, sadly, passed away from his injuries. The video circulating on Facebook clearly shows the wrecked lorry front and the dented road sign.
Who’s in the Hot Seat?
Authorities arrested a 29‑year‑old lorry driver, linked to the rear vehicle, on charges of causing death by negligent act. Both the deceased and the driver belonged to the same lorry. Thankfully, no one else was injured.
Current Status
The police are still digging into the details of the crash. Further updates will follow.
