Police say the driver is still conscious
Police informed AsiaOne that the 27‑year‑old male van driver was conscious when he was brought to the hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
The shaky video from the SG Road Vigilante group
On Thursday, a clip that popped onto the SG Road Vigilante Facebook group shows the van sashaying out of control on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and heading straight for a barricade before hitting a lorry.
- Speed & steering: The van was racing down the rightmost lane, then suddenly flipped a 90‑degree turn toward the left lane, barreling straight into the barricade.
- Crash‑n‑crash: After smashing into the barricade, the van dove into a lorry wedged in the third lane.
Singapore Civil Defence Force briefing
SCDF reported that they were alerted to the incident around 9 am, just before the Dairy Farm Road exit on May 4.
They confirmed that they transported a patient to Ng Teng Fong Hospital.
Public reaction to the van driver incident
While a handful of netizens worried about the van driver’s safety, a bunch of others were quick to throw their hat in the ring and blame him.
What the chatter looks like
- “If this joker’s happened with a different stop sign, a pile‑up could’ve been avoided… No sympathy for that kind of driving attitude,” one user vented.
- Others echoed that sentiment, saying the driver’s decisions were “irresponsible” or “utterly reckless.”
- Some posted memes mocking the situation, pointing out how the driver’s lack of discipline felt like a slap in the face.
In short, the online world split into two camps: the concerned folks who cared about road safety, and the quick‑to‑blame crowd that called for a harsher judgment of the driver’s questionable choices.
Van on the Wild Side: A Road‑Rage Clip from Yishun Avenue 3
“What was the van doing in the first lane?” one passer‑by asked, half‑laughing, half‑worried. The answer? A crash that rattled homes and knocked a lamp post to the curb.
The June Incident
- Sound of a bang – Residents lined up the day, listening to a sharp pop that echoed through Yishun Avenue 3.
- Van’s debut – A vehicle, still in an early lane, somehow ended up bumping into a lamp post.
- Aftermath – The driver went to the hospital but, unfortunately, didn’t make it.
Another Bumpy Track Record
It’s not the first time the area’s lanes have been the backdrop for a van mishap. What identity this rogue vehicle is, and what made it crash, remains a mystery that only a more thorough police probe can solve.
Remembering the Soft‑spoken Regret
We’ve all had a sudden “whoops” moment on the road that we wish we could rewind. In this case, a vanished driver, a non‑functioning lamp post, and a community that’s still trying to smile at an unfortunate noise in the night.
