Meet Roy Koo: The VR Trailblazer
Roy Koo – 29, the man who turned a simple VR arcade into a playground for the imagination, and now a pioneer in bespoke virtual worlds that span from gaming to surgery.
From Campus to the Cutting Edge
Fresh out of the National University of Singapore, Roy didn’t just graduate; he launched Ignite VR and opened Singapore’s first VR arcade in 2016. The venture didn’t stay stuck on “just games”; it grew into a firm that crafts custom VR experiences for a variety of industries.
Why Roy Loves the Job
- He gets to tailor digital adventures to each client’s unique needs.
- He’s always testing the latest gadgets.
- He experiments with fresh ideas that can make people say: “Wow!”
“For me, this is the life—trying new tech and creating mind‑blowing experiences,” Roy says.
Beyond the Arcade: A Community Champion
As a board member of AsiaVR Association, Roy plugs peer gatherings, hackathons, and workshops into his calendar. His mission? Build awareness so more folks understand what VR can do.
The Hardest Hurdle
“The biggest challenge ever is explaining VR to people who haven’t tried it,” Roy explains. “No amount of words, pictures, or videos can match the immersive feel. The only way is to let them experience it.”
