W Series Moves Asian Debut from Suzuka to Singapore – Lifestyle News

The W Series Takes a Detour from Japan

In a surprising twist, the all‑female W Series has hit pause on its Japanese plans and will instead hit the streets of Singapore this October. Organisers announced the change on Wednesday, the 28th of July, citing “unforeseeable operational challenges.”

Why the Switch?

Catherine Bond Muir, the brain behind the W Series, explained that the global racing landscape has shifted wildly since the 2022 calendar was unveiled in January. “We’re a young, hungry company,” she said, “and the hurdles in Japan have spiralled out of control. We’re sorry to miss out this year.”

Japan’s Suzuka Was on the Menu…

For the W Series, Suzuka would have been one of five brand‑new circuits this season. The series runs 10 races as a support act at eight Formula One events, and the Japanese track promised an extra dose of excitement.

Singapore Arrives as the New Hero

Singapore has been dubbed the seventh round, and would potentially be the first night‑time event on the W Series calendar with the iconic Marina Bay street circuit. Catherine highlighted Asia as a “key market” and expressed a wish to “legally install our flag there each year.”

Future Plans?

“I’d love a long‑term deal in Singapore,” Bond Muir said. “We’ve chatted with the organisers for a few years now, ever since the Japanese finale turned into a no‑go, so of course we’re moving on.”

What the Weather Tells Us

The Singapore Grand Prix is set for the weekend of Oct. 1‑2, a week ahead of the postponed Japanese event. Covid‑19 restrictions on visitors to Japan have further tightened the situation for the W Series.

W Series—A Quick Recap

Launched in 2019, the series aims to funnel talented women toward Formula One. Drivers compete in identical Formula Three cars, keeping the focus squarely on skill.

  • Britain’s double champ Jamie Chadwick dominates the season, winning all five races so far.
  • She has claimed the last seven victories in total – a clear indicator of her relentless drive.

Final Thought

While Suzuka’s roar will be missed, the buzz of Singapore’s night streets could bring a fresh and electrifying spark to the W Series. Stay tuned – the next lap might just be the one that changes the racing narrative.
