Korean drama Thirty-Nine marks the return of Son Ye-jin to the small screen since her role in the iconic romcom Crash Landing On You, in which she stars opposite husband Hyun Bin.

The show details the lives of three friends as they are about to turn 40 and in it, Son Ye-jin plays a clinic director, Cha Mi-jo. Ahead, we share with you six tips to recreate Son Ye-jin’s natural and polished makeup in Thirty-Nine.

Start with the right skincare

As mentioned, Son Ye-jin plays a dermatologist in the show. As such, we can assume that her character places a lot of emphasis on her skincare routine and using the right products to maintain her youthful, luminous complexion.

Discoloration Defence, $168, from SkinCeuticals

ICYDK, Son Ye-jin is an ambassador for SkinCeuticals. She had previously gushed over the cult favourite C E Ferulic vitamin C serum on her Instagram so here we are spotlighting another fan favourite, the Discoloration Defence serum.

This serum features various actives including one per cent kojic acid, three per cent topical TXA and five per cent niacinamide to target discolouration and hyperpigmentation to brighten skin over time.

Achieve a flawless glowy base

Applying extra foundation will only result in a cakey base. Instead, start by spot concealing blemishes before applying a sheer, thin layer of foundation to even out and perfect your complexion.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, $60, from Sephora

This two-shade concealer works as a colour corrector to cancel out discolouration. You can mix the two shades together before stippling it onto the blemish.

Remember less is more. Avoid using too much concealer for a more natural finish.

Tightline the eyes

Besides tracing along your lash line, we recommend tightlining your eyes with eyeliner. This technique involves lining the upper waterline (area inside the lash line) to fake fuller lashes. Pro tip: tightlining your bottom waterline with nude or white eyeliner can help to open up the eyes.

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen Eyeliner, $20, from Sephora

Comes in fun shades like purple and gold in addition to the usual brown and black, this eyeliner is made with a smudge-, budge- and waterproof formula that promises long-wearing, high pigmentation with just one swipe.

If you have poker-straight lashes that are barely visible, it’s time to incorporate an eyelash curler in your routine. This small but mighty tool lifts your lashes to help you look more wide-eyed and awake.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, $30, from Sephora

Meet the Lash‑Curving Lifter That’s Turning Heads

Shu Uemura’s top‑selling eyelash curler isn’t just a tool—it’s a must‑have for anyone looking to give those straight‑as‑a‑rail Asian lashes a lift that’s almost magical.

Why It’s a Crowd‑Pleaser

  • Precision & comfort: The silicone pad molds perfectly around your lashes, eliminating the dreaded after‑curler “numb” feeling.
  • Gentle lift: No harsh clamping—just a graceful swoop that keeps your lashes from drooping mid‑day.
  • Built to last: Designed with durability in mind, it holds up to repeated use without warping.

Getting the Most Out of Your Curler

  1. Warm the pad with a hairdryer for a few seconds until it’s just warm (but not hot).
  2. Let it cool so you avoid any eye‑skin mishaps.
  3. Clamp your lashes and hold for the optimal curling time.

It’s that simple—a quick warm‑up, a cool down, and a flawless curl. Ready to try it out? You’ll see what all the fuss is about.

To complete her natural and polished makeup, Son Ye-jin opts for soft, feminine peachy pink lip colours. She also favours watery lip tints and stains that deliver a light wash of colour.

Hera Fresh Nude Tint, $46, from Sephora

This lightweight lip tint has a watery texture that moisturises while imparting a subtle shine that creates the illusion of fuller lips.

Add a smidgen of lip tint to the centre of your pout and diffuse the colour with your fingers or a lip brush.
