Big Dogs in Your Flat? Yes, It’s Now Possible!

The HDB has just tossed out its old rulebook on dog size. If you’re ready to swap that pint‑size companion for something a touch taller, you’re in luck—just for the right dogs.

What’s Changed?

  • Local mixed‑breed dogs who are up for adoption can now be up to 55 cm tall—no weight limit at all.
  • The old threshold was 50 cm and 15 kg.

Project Adore Goes Big (Literally)

Launched in 2012, Project Adore lets you adopt a local mixed‑breed dog that’s usually bigger than the approved breeds. Here’s the deal:

  • You can’t buy these pups from shops or breeders. They must come from one of the following rescues:
  • Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Action for Singapore Dogs, Save Our Street Dogs, Exclusively Mongrels, or Causes for Animals.
  • Potential owners go through a strict screening to make sure they’re a good fit.

Not Eligible? These 12 Breeds Still Fit the Bill

  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  • Brussels Griffon
  • Lhasa Apso
  • Volpino Italiano
  • Italian Greyhound
  • Coton de Tulear
  • Bolognese
  • Boston Terrier
  • Schipperke
  • Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog)
  • Miniature Pinscher
  • Pug

So whether you’re eyeing a bulkier mutt under the Project Adore umbrella or a snazzy small‑breed from the list above, your HDB flat is ready to welcome your four‑legged friend—just make sure you’ve read all the fine print before you pick up that leash.
