After 22 Years, Golden Horse Stars Aaron Kwok and Francis Ng Return to the Big Screen Together

Aaron Kwok and Francis Ng Team Up After Over 20 Years

Hey, Hong Kong movie fans! Get ready for a blockbuster reunion. The charismatic Aaron Kwok (56) and the seasoned Francis Ng (60) are stepping onto the big screen together again in the upcoming crime mystery Insider. Their pre‑shoot ceremony kicked off on Monday, June 6.

What’s In Store

  • Aaron Kwok takes on a sharp‑witted lawyer role.
  • Francis Ng plays a patrol officer who’s always on the lookout.
  • They’re joined by the gritty Simon Yam and the charismatic Alex Fong.

Past Memories

The two legends last shared screen time in the early‑2000s action hit AD 2000. It was a joint Singapore‑Hong Kong venture that also featured James Lye, Phyllis Quek and Cynthia Koh. Fast forward to today, and Kwok’s thrilled to work with Ng again.

Kwok shared his excitement with local media:

“I’m super happy to team up with Francis again. I’ve watched his film Drifting (2021) – the one that earned him a Golden Horse Best Actor nod. It’s a proud moment!”

Director Alan Mak’s Return

Kwok isn’t just reuniting with a former co‑star; he’s also colliding with the mastermind behind the Infernal Affairs trilogy. Alan Mak, who brought cinematic brilliance to Infernal Affairs and the Overhead trilogy, joins the crew.

“The last time I worked with Alan Mak was in 1996 on Somebody Up There Likes Me. I’m glad to be hanging out with fellow old pal in this fresh venture!”

Who Nearly Crashed the Film

The opportunity for Ng’s policeman role almost slipped away. First cut was set for Raymond Lam (42), who bowed out due to scheduling conflicts. The role then ducked into the hands of William Chan (36), only to be turned away as he felt he lacked the “life experience” needed.

Ng breezed through the whole drama, saying the sort of role is a kind of love for the cast, not the cash:

“It’s mainly the cast I care about. I’ve already worked with Jacky Cheung and Nicholas Tse, and now I’m going to collaborate with Aaron again. Money? Not a big deal.”

Behind The Scenes

Once again, Ben and Bill had to swap the dream jobs because of a schedule shuffle. You might think it would hurt any actor’s ego, but, as Ng puts it, he’s just glad for the chance to create movie magic.

Looking forward, the Insider team promises drama, intrigue, and the steak‑sized companionship of film icons. Stay tuned—reunion reels, suspense, and a sprinkle of sunshine are sure to keep the audience on their toes.
