Felicia Chin Ready for New Job, Feels Like First Day of School

Felicia Chin’s Leap from Acting to Production

Remember when Felicia Chin first showed up on screen as the “Mermaid” in Portrait of Home? Back then, she felt like a fish out of water. Fast‑forward to today, and she’s still swimming in a different ocean.

Starting Fresh at Hai Hao Ma

After the 2024 release of When Duty Calls 2, a last stop with Mediacorp in the foreseeable future, Felicia traded the set for a producer’s chair.

  • New Job: Producer & presenter for Hai Hao Ma.
  • Responsibilities: Ideation, pre‑production, and video content creation.
  • First Day: She admitted it felt like “the first day of school” – nerves, new faces, and a whole new vibe.

“I was nervous,” she confided. “It’s the first day of school, meet new friends, a new environment, right?”

She’s also learning to wrangle her own hair and makeup backstage – a new learning curve that’s making her brain cells go a‑ha!

The “Learning Curve” of Producing

“As an actor I usually work from a script I already have. Now, as a producer, my brain cells are burning,” Felicia joked. She’s moved from creativity on set to the creative spark behind the scenes.

Help from a Sweet Fiance

Her fiancé, Jeffrey Xu, was a support champ.

“Jeffrey was sweet—he picked me up, sent me to work, and came back for me after the shift. It feels like you have someone by you.”

Her new colleagues were warm too. A thoughtful welcome gift instantly made her feel welcomed.

What Drives Her?

Felicia’s passion now shines through her new role.

  • Control over concept and storytelling.
  • Sharing candid, real stories to inspire others.
  • Her own battle with bulimia: “We’re all human, we’re not perfect. That’s something I want to bring back to society.”

Past Struggles & Growth

In her early twenties, during “Mermaid,” Felicia felt “not good enough.” She let critics and harsh self‑judgment bring her down.

“I felt inadequate and I was affected by people’s opinions. I was too harsh on myself.”

She once shared on Hear U Out that she was a newbie actress who didn’t quite grasp or execute some things. “Very disappointed. Felt useless,” she said. She relapsed into binge‑eating, scooping two bags of food from a convenience store daily – only to feel worse.

Moving Forward Together

Now, she and her 33‑year‑old partner, Jeffrey, are steering into a new season of life together. They’re planning a wedding before the year ends.
