FBI says Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger in the deadly “Rust” shooting
After months of scrutiny, the FBI’s final report clears the House: Alec Baldwin, the 64‑year‑old star, indeed pulled the trigger that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust in Santa Fe in October 2021.
What the investigation uncovered
- The gun was supposed to carry only “dummy” bullets, not live rounds.
- Investigators tried to fire the weapon without touching the trigger, but couldn’t.
- The report concluded that the only way the gun fired was through a pull of the trigger.
Baldwin had long denied doing so, saying “I didn’t pull the trigger; I’ve never pointed a gun at anyone and fired.” But now the FBI’s findings may open the door for criminal charges not just for him, but for anyone else involved.
Baldwin’s own words
In a TV interview last year, the actor confessed that the gun was meant as a prop, yet an unexpected live bullet was found in it:
- “Someone put a live bullet in the gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the set.”
- He said he’s still grappling with the tragedy, noting, “Even now, I find it hard to believe it happened.”
With an FBI report now backing up the trigger‑pull claim, expectations are high that the entertainment world will finally see justice served.
