Pesky neighbour forces Opera Estate resident into parking crisis

Parking Pandemonium on Fidelio Street

Just when you’re hoping for a quiet evening, a car shows up on your driveway. That was the scene for Calvin, a resident of Fidelio Street in Opera Estate, who found himself stuck without a spot after a neighbour’s BMW swooped into the spot right outside his house on Wednesday night (Nov 9).

The Ever‑Present Parking Problem

Calvin says it’s nothing new. “The neighbour has always been a bit of a parking rebel, ignoring polite nudges and still parking in front of my house even when told to leave it for them.” Consequently, he can’t find a spot in his own property because “my porch has some stuff.” The neighbour’s empty porch, however, remains a backdrop for their parking antics.

Parking By the Bin – A Shabby Hack

  • Some residents resort to using rubbish bins to “chop” parking spots in front of their homes.
  • Others have called this practice “selfish” or “animal behaviour.”
  • On Nov 1, Gabriel slammed Huddington Avenue residents for bin‑parking, while Pioneer Singaporean yanked the same habit at Portchester Avenue on Sept 12.
LTA Steps In

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) explained that for private‑estate parking disputes they first try a community approach, advising residents to keep items out of the way. “If that fails, or if safety is a concern, we’ll enforce under Section 32A of the Street Works Act,” the LTA said.

Sorry to all you parking‑hungry folks, but your bins might not be your best friend.
