Rats Devour 24,000 S$ From Indian Bank ATM

Rodents Rejoice, Cash Fears: Assam’s ATM Turns Into a Shredded Snack Spot

Why The Machine Went Silent

In the quiet district of Tinkusia, locals reported that the ATM was suddenly “dead” and no cash was coming out.
The police didn’t see the crunch until they popped the cover open.

The Rodent Detective Work

When the bank officials examined the troubled ATM last week they found:

  • A dead rat stiffly curled up on the tray.
  • Banknotes ripped into ragged pieces—mostly ₹500 and ₹2000 bills.

Insights from the Police Superintendent, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta

“No human culprit was involved; rats slipped in through a tiny wire gap,” he told AFP.

How Much Money Munched

Local media estimates the shredded loot to be around 1.2 million rupees, equating to roughly SGD 24,055.
